  • Joe Henry. An absolute fave. This guy is just amazing. A perfect mix of americana and jazz. Just listen.
  • Travis. A Scot-pop classic.

downloads

  • The granddaddy of the mp3 revolution is certainly MP3.com. One of the Kris Kehr tracks was used in a Ford Motor Company mp3 promotional giveaway.
  • When was the last time you bought a single for 99¢? Apple's iTunes is now cross-platform.

places

  • Webster's Bookstore Cafe in State College is one of my favorite places to see live music, find great books and enjoy some of the best espresso I've ever had.
  • Alley Cat Music also in State College is a cool guitar shop. The specialize in quality repairs and service. They exclusively sell the SRC Barker amplifiers and are also a G&L, Martin, Lado, Legend and Northwood dealer.
  • Just around the corner is Bill Beard's shop Rainbow Music. Another fine shop.

friends and influences

  • The Asher Kahn Band is making people notice. I just love these guys.

  • Old buddy Jason Spiewak has a solo album out.
  • See what Jeff Conlin is up to these days.

radio

  • Lion-Radio WKPS 90.7 FM continues to play almost anything college radio. I especially like the weekend Avant Garde show with Cosmic Ray Cromie.
  • WPSU 91.5 FM is my local NPR affiliate. They keep me up to date with their all-that-news programming. The classical programming could use some improvement, but they've added some great new programs. Thank God the Met is still on the air.
  • If you're ever in Pittsburgh check out WYEP 91.3 FM, possibly one of the last great independent radio stations.
  • WXPN 88.5 FM in Philadelphia is also another.
  • This American Life is the best radio program currently in production.
  • Prairie Home Companion might be second best, nonetheless it continues to make me laugh and entertain me with some incredible and varied music.
  • I've come to crave the BBC World Service.

CD's and vinyl

  • Not only did the guys Village Records give some great Kris Kehr reviews, they have some great mail order records.
  • Records By Mail has an amazing site filled with thousands and thousands (possibly millions) of hard to find and collectible records for sale.
  • CD Baby is the independent musician's dream come true.
  • Good friend and music nut Josh Ferko sells some cool records as Stax-of-Soul on Ebay. Bid on something.
  • And don't forget to stop by Miles of Music for some good music by mail.

print

  • McSweeny's is a great quarterly literary journal from Dave Eggers &c. They also sell a diverse selection of books under their publishing division.
  • The Economist

  • The New York Times
  • exquisite dead guy is now an online zine by new friend and fan (also fellow accordion freak) Alice Teeple.
