September 18, 2004

It's been some time since the last update, so here we go.

During the last tour we had a great time roaming around south. Isaac's CD release was a fun night and our visit to Nashville was a long, wonderful experience. Couldn't have been happier with Adam's hard work and the fantastic engineering from Jeff. Not to mention Bucky and everyone else we met.

Right now I'm waiting for a flight to Myrtle Beach for a family reunion. The remnants of Hurricane Ivan cancelled my original flight and made a mess out of State College last night. At least I can still make it to the beach, even if it is a little later than I originally planned.

The rain, rain, rain. I haven't seen flooding like we saw last night since March of 1996. North Atherton Street was closed by flooding, East Branch Road was closed. Many others were barely passable. Should make for an interesting Football weekend. I got home after a long night and there was about four feet of water in my basement. Hopefully my clothes washer will survive, but I don't thing the Leslie 145 will. Alas. I'm afraid some other musical gear down there won't be salvageable either. I guess Monday will be the day to sort through that mess, no time today... I've got a plane to catch.

After my brief beach vacation we head south again. Then we're back in town ever so briefly before heading out on our first European tour. I'm excited, so is everyone else. For the first time the house will be empty for some days. Sasquatch fortunately will have a daily visitor, but Mick went to Ireland for a wedding. I'm pretty jealous, but I'll be there after he gets back.

More later.

August 20, 2004

We're gearing up to head out on the road again tomorrow. On Sunday we play Isaac Wardell's CD release party in Chattanooga, TN. Isaac came up here to PA a while ago to record the CD with Mason and myself. Bob Klotz mixed it. It should be a fun time.

We're also stopping over in Nashville to check out Bucky Baxter's recording studio with some folks we met from Allison Moorer's band. Sounds like it will be a great time.

We make our Athens, GA debut the next night and then head to Charlotte for what should be a great return to the Evening Muse.

It's been a wild change of events for my gig rig. I was using Wurly with Dawn, but trying to keep it in tune and less noisy I broke down and got some new gear. I decided to grab a Nord Electro. I've been extremely happy with it. Clavia makes such great gear that I also grabbed a Micro Modular for bass. If we ever get a bass player I'll have even more sounds for the arsenal.

Speaking of sounds, this tour marks the debut of a laptop as a sampler. I've loaded up some sounds in Kontakt and hopefully nothing will crash. So far it's pretty cool. I've been spending the day working out the kinks. I still think it's funny that the Hammond has only left the garage three times this year.

But that will change. Sometime this fall Todd Bartolo's CD will finally be released with a great band. I still haven't heard it, but a copy is on the way. In other recording news, Erin Condo's CD should be out soon and Isaac's is apparently going to be around Sunday.

That's what I've been up to. I also shaved off the goatee.

Ok, so it's not yet that dynamic, but here's the basic jist of the new site. There's plenty of work to be done. I need to find some new pictures for one. I shaved off that goatee, so I look a bit different now.

In the next few days I should have the website design portion of the site finished. Stay tuned.

I'm updating the site once again and trying to play with some nifty stuff. Hopefully this is all working. More later.

Cincinnati, OH

Back up North.

Last night we played an interesting 'club' in the far suburbs of Louisville. A most unique evening of hillbonics. Mason left us this morning to return to Philadelphia to cover a story for the Philadelphia Inquirer -- he will be missed. This afternoon we meet up with Billy from WV, his sub. I think we'll be playing a small show tonight before heading even further north to Chicago.

I think we've become quite spoiled with the pleasant southern winter. As I type, Dawn in preparing to do an on-air performance at WNKU-FM. When we got out the car the first thing I noticed was the biting wind. Hard to believe we left the morning after a snowstorm last week. Now I'm not saying it wasn't cold down south. Birmingham was having a cold spell.

The gigs in Birmingham and Nashville went well. Nashville brought out some of Mason's friends from Tennessee. The Radio Cafe had possibly the greatest fried catfish ever. I'd hoped to wander around some, but things got quite chaotic and time ran short.

We headed north to Louisville for possibly the most unique gig yet. Getting quite used to driving around and eating on the go. Cracker Barrel as usual. The weather has been absolutely wonderful, we've only seen rain once now. We did finally wash the salt off the car, but it looks like we'll be seeing snow again as we head north again.

Chicago Friday night, St. Louis Saturday and a brief return home before Pittsburgh. And in one week home ground State College at Zeno's with Wayne “The Train” Hancock -- Thursday the 29th.

Until next time...

Rock Hill, SC

We've had the weekend off. After the Chapel Hill show we came down here (briefly south from Charlotte) to stay with Mason's parent's home. I'm sitting on a comfy chair watching Dawn cut Mason's hair.

On Thursday morning we left State College after a snow storm the evening before. We drove straight to Chapel Hill and played. The show went well, but we were quite tired. My brother was gracious enough to let us stay at his home in Durham for the evening. The next morning we headed south-west to Charlotte.

The Evening Muse was a fanastic show with a great crowd. I was hoping some relatives in Charlotte would make it over, but it was a late start. The place had a great vibe and a great welcoming crowd. It was a place I'd definately like to return to, hopefully next month. Also, one of the nicest soundmen I've ever met worked there and also was part-owner. What a wonderful suprise.

So far there have been some wonderful write-ups in local rags. We were a pick of the week in Charlotte (not even mentioning the Donna the Buffalo show across the street) and also a pick in both Nashville entertainment weeklies.

Right now we're getting ready to head to Birmingham for tomorrow night -- Nashville Tueday.

Happy New Year!

I've been spending some time trying to learn a few new things with this website and it's been driving me batty. But until things start to work the way I really want them to work this is what you've got.

We (Dawn Kinnard and band) head out on Thursday for the first 'tour' of the year. We'll be heading around the south and then a brief skip up to the MidWest. Check the dates page for the most current information.

A week ago we played at Club Cafe in Pittsburgh. We had a wonderful time there meeting some great folks. I particularly enjoyed meeting some other Grove City graduates by chance. It was a great time to share some experiences with other alumni. We'll be down there again in February and I hope to see some of those folks again.

Now that I've acquired a laptop I hope to update this page while out on tour. I'm hoping I have everything figured out. I was hoping to make it easy, but nothing ever is. I guess y'all will just have to check back and see.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and hope to see you out on the road.
